A VERY BRIEF HISTORY OF PASADENA
The Hahamogna Tribe of Native Americans once dwelled in the area now known as Pasadena. They lived in villages located along the Arroyo Seco and an area stretching from the mountains down to what is now the South Pasadena area. In September of 1771 the Spaniards arrived and established the San Gabriel Mission... using Native Americans as labor for the mission. The Mission florished and had many orchards, vineyards and cattle. Then the land around it was divided into Ranchos, with the Mission lands being given to individuals after California passed from Spain to Mexico. After California became a State in the mid 1800s, the Pasadena area prospered and eventually became famous for such events as the Tournament of Roses, and locations like the Rose Bowl, Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the California Institute of Technology.
