If you are coming to California for the first time, or if you are a native, I suggest you take a day or so to drive the coast and find the spot that best suits your desires. Just be aware of the following... 1. Remember that not all beaches face west. So, if you want a sunset wedding, be careful of the beach you choose or you might actually have the sunset behind you instead of over the water. 2. California beaches can get rather cold at twilight, so bring warm clothes just in case... even in the summer. 3. Any time of the year (but especially around June) the marine layer can move inland and make the beaches cold and overcast even when the forecast say "sunny". The marine layer usually burns off by around noon on most days, but can return in the early evening or late afternoon. 4. Some beaches require a parking or entry fee. 5. Beaches don't require permits for simple weddings, but if you intend to have a large wedding (bring chairs, caterers, etc.), get a permit. 6. Beaches, like all public venues cannot be reserved without a permit, so be prepared for surfers or other beach goers to possibly be walking around as you do your wedding. Although, weddings are very common on California beaches, so most people are respectful. |
